The fifteen-minute table
Pick one recurring slot — after dinner, Saturday morning — and keep the same box of supplies on the table for it. Consistency beats duration. Children who know creativity happens on Tuesday evenings stop needing to be persuaded.
Colour together, not over their shoulder
When an adult colours their own page at the same table, children work longer and experiment more. It also gives parents a legitimate reason to sit down for a quarter of an hour, which is not nothing.
